Lions update: Predicting Jameson Williams’ stats for the 2024 season

How will Jameson Williams perform in 2024? The “Reception Perception” podcast found a very interesting split in his production from 2023.

The Detroit Lions have high expectations for Jameson Williams this year. As the clear WR2 behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and entering his first full professional season, Williams is poised to receive significantly more opportunities. However, projecting his performance in 2024 is challenging due to his fluctuating on-field efficiency. Opinions vary widely from potential bust to potential All-Pro.

NFL analyst Matt Harmon discussed Williams extensively on the “Reception Perception” podcast with James Koh, noting the difficulty in predicting his upcoming season.

“I don’t have a strong take on this one,” Harmon admitted. “It’s ironic because people seem to have very strong opinions on what Jameson Williams will or will not be.”

Despite Williams’ modest production over his first two years (25 catches, 395 yards, 3 TDs), Harmon believes dismissing him based on historical precedent isn’t fair, citing Williams’ unique circumstances such as his ACL injury and suspension.

Harmon pointed out a notable shift in Williams’ productivity during the latter part of the 2023 season, which showed improved success rates against different defensive coverages compared to his full-season averages.

Looking ahead to 2024, while the sample size of improved performance is small, there’s optimism from Lions head coach Dan Campbell about Williams’ development. Harmon suggested a potential outcome akin to early-career Brandin Cooks, projecting around 100 targets for Williams this season.

In summary, while the projections for Jameson Williams vary widely, the potential for a breakout season exists given his developmental trajectory and the opportunities ahead in Detroit.
