It’s common knowledge that the 49ers are in dire need of an offensive tackle, especially considering Colton McKivitz’s 13 sacks surrendered last season and Trent Williams approaching his 36th birthday in July, indicating thin depth at the position.

Given that the 49ers didn’t draft any offensive linemen last year, it’s highly likely they’ll prioritize selecting at least one this year. When it comes to targeting an offensive tackle specifically, it wouldn’t be surprising if they opt for Roger Rosengarten from Washington.

Rosengarten seems tailor-made for the 49ers’ system. His extensive experience with zone blocking aligns well with the team’s offensive strategy. Notably, his high school coach, Ed McCaffrey, implemented the Shanahan offensive system. Additionally, he’s currently undergoing training with former 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley, who played under Kyle Shanahan.

In an interview with The Draft Network, Rosengarten praised Staley as the epitome of excellence in offensive line play, highlighting his vast knowledge and versatility across different eras and schemes. Rosengarten emphasized Staley’s significant role in honing his skills in both pass protection and run blocking, crediting him with invaluable insights and techniques acquired throughout their training sessions.

As a prospect, Rosengarten bears striking resemblance to Staley when he entered the draft, as evident from their athletic testing numbers:

– Rosengarten: 6’5″ 3/8, 308 lbs., 4.92-second 40-yard dash, and 20 bench press reps.
