BREAKING NEWS: Matt McMahon, the head strength coach of LSU basketball, has hired a native of Baton Rouge.

Mike Chatman, a native of Baton Rouge, was hired by LSU men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon as the team’s new strength and conditioning coach on Thursday.
After graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University, Chatman worked as the sports performance coach for the Stanford men’s basketball team for the previous five seasons.
After beginning his career as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Southern University, Chatman has also worked in the athletic departments at Texas, Michigan, Penn State, Southern Miss, and Towson.
After leaving Southern, he also worked for renowned weightlifting coach Gayle Hatch in Baton Rouge.
Chatman has a master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania in addition to an applied science bachelor’s degree.
The LSU board of supervisors has to approve his hire before it can happen.
