Former world No 1 reveals key Roger Federer quality Carlos Alcaraz must add to improve

Carlos Alcaraz’s serving is “one area he can improve on,” according to former doubles world No. 1 Rennae Stubbs, who also believes it will help him “win more on a fast court.”
Serena Williams’s former coach Stubbs concluded that Alcaraz’s serving accuracy is “nowhere near as good” as that of Swiss legend Roger Federer.
Although many have praised Alcaraz for having such a complete game at the young age of 20, his serve has frequently been mentioned as the area that needs the greatest improvement.
In a previous edition of his Served podcast, former world No. 1 Andy Roddick examined Alcaraz’s serve.
“I feel that he could do a better job serving. The American asserted, “I don’t think that has really improved much at all in the last two years.”
“We were aware of him when he won Miami a few years ago, and I recall seeing him kind of peak. At that time, he was serving 135; however, it seems like he’s only serving 127 now.”
“It’s not moving too much, is it? Large servers are available who service the entire court. Therefore, these servers can accommodate up to 136 people, but if you have a racket on it, you may square it up a little bit.
It sounds like you can kind of square it up and get that nice pop sound to it if you read it correctly. Therefore, I believe that Alcaraz can most obviously improve its serve.
Tennis pundit Rennae Stubbs, who compared Alcaraz’s height to Roger Federer, stated on Racquet’s Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast that Alcaraz’s serve may become far more precise.
“Carlos and Roger Federer are not particularly tall. What is Roger’s height, six feet one? Although he is somewhat taller than Carlos Alcaraz, their statures are fairly close. However, Roger was a fantastic spot server, according to the Australian, who took home six major championships in mixed and women’s doubles.
“Therefore, they performed a diagnosis regarding the Hawk-Eye where they serve. Roger, too, was never far from the line. So is Djokovic’s Novak. Therefore, Carlos’ spots are not nearly as good as Roger’s when two guys of the same height are discussing.
“Isn’t that about a foot away from the sidelines? He is therefore not hitting the ball very close to the line, even though he is hitting it well and loudly. Roger would hit it quite near to the lines for that reason.
Therefore, I believe that his spot serving is one area where he can really shine. As professionals, we all put the cans down. It’s imperative that you repeatedly strike the can on the line. or just in front of the line.
“And not even a foot off the line, since that permits a [Daniil] Medvedev, [Jannik] Sinner, [Holger] Rune, and Novak to obtain the return back into the court.”
He can make improvements in that area, which will help him win more games on a quick court. Yes, he did win Wimbledon, but to be honest, I saw the match live. He did a fantastic job serving against Novak in that match. Thus, he was receiving bonus points there.
Alcaraz suffered a right forearm injury on Tuesday, forcing him to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters this week.
