former LSU star speaks up about her “mistakes” after being left off of the WNBA roster
This year, Alexis Morris will play her first professional basketball game in the United States with the Harlem Globetrotters.
The former LSU women’s basketball star and aspiring WNBA player Alexis Morris isn’t letting it stop her from reaching the league. Morris was cut before the season even began. The Connecticut Sun had taken her in the second round of the draft after she played a crucial part in LSU’s 2023 national title victory.
She received no invitation to any WNBA camps this year, so everything stayed the same. Morris is steadfast in her pursuit of her dream in spite of these obstacles.
Without a doubt. I have this dream. According to Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press, she remarked, “I can’t give up my dream.” “I acknowledge my mistakes, and I’ll keep working toward it until I achieve my goals. It is a tough league to make.”
Morris just signed with the Harlem Globetrotters, beginning a new chapter in her basketball career. She previously played abroad in Romania and Turkey.
“I was not in the mental space to go play overseas initially after getting waived from the W,” she said in reference to the change. It took some time for me to realize that I was leaving my native nation. I’m here right now, doing what I love to do.
Morris, who went by the moniker “The Show” when she was twelve, is the sixth female participant in the 98-year history of the Globetrotters.
We come out here every night to perform for the families and fans, and our ultimate goal is to transform people’s perceptions and bring millions of smiles to people’s faces.
Remorse not for past remarks made by Alexis Morris regarding league veterans
The 5-foot-6 guard, who was chosen first-team All-Southeastern Conference and averaged 15.6 points in her championship season with LSU, also addressed remarks she has made in the past regarding WNBA veterans. Morris faced criticism after being dismissed for implying that some veterans ought to step down to make place for newcomers.
Morris stated, “I don’t regret what I said, but I do wish I had articulated it better to reach people it should have.” “I wasn’t trying to be that knucklehead rookie; I was a veteran at LSU and I know how hard it is when you have rookies who don’t respect the time you served. I wasn’t targeting the veterans.” I said what needed to be said. I was sorry about the way I phrased it.
Morris is optimistic about the WNBA’s future, as it will welcome a new team in the San Francisco Bay Area the following season.
She said, “I hope and wish that they can grow and have more opportunities for the younger generation and talented people who want to play there.”
Similar remarks were made by Sandy Brondello, the coach of the New York Liberty, who acknowledged that assembling a squad was challenging due to the wealth of skill.
“Creating a roster right now is difficult,” Brondello stated. “There are a lot of incredibly gifted players who never get the chance.”
With three additional clubs expected to join the WNBA by 2028, Alexis Morris’s tale serves as a reminder of the difficulties faced by those who choose to pursue careers in professional sports. Morris, meantime, is appreciative that the Globetrotters support her dual goals and will provide her playing time if she decides to leave the team in the near future.
“I intend to stay here forever,” she declared. For women who choose to remain in the United States, it is ideal. You can play in the WNBA after becoming a Harlem Globetrotter. It’s the ideal chance for women to remain in our nation,” Morris remarked.
It gives women an additional outlet. You still have the chance to train and improve your skills. It’s essential that you move and conduct like an expert.
