Prior to Birmingham City’s crucial Championship matchup with Norwich on Saturday, Paul Robinson has made an effort to energize the team.
Before Saturday’s crucial Sky Bet Championship matchup against Norwich City, Birmingham City great and current coach Paul Robinson has given the squad a harsh reminder.
Anything less than three points is probably not going to be enough for Blues to escape in what is effectively a relegation decider after they lost to Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.
Before the last day, Birmingham, now ranked 22nd, is one point behind Plymouth Argyle and three behind Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers. As long as Norwich loses, Blues will be able to stay in the league despite a loss against any of the three clubs mentioned above due to their significant goal differential.
However, defeating the Canaries will be difficult because David Wagner’s team hasn’t formally declared their play-off credentials and because finishing fifth instead of sixth will provide them a more advantageous semi-final matchup.
Robinson has given an inspirational pre-match sermon. A decade ago, Robinson was a major factor in Blues’ incredible 2-2 comeback draw away at Bolton Wanderers to secure a last-ditch relegation escape.
“We had what felt like fate had been written on the wall in May 2014—we were behind 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining—but we had other plans and I never stopped believing that anything is possible,” Robinson posted on his Instagram page.
“The Blues shirt that I proudly wore is intertwined with the hearts of all Blues fans, past and present. If only I could put on the shirt one more time and go into combat with you, side by side—this time, I’d be in the dugout.
I’ll be inspiring the guys, and we’ll have almost 20,000 supporters behind us. Lean on the enthusiasm of the spectators, control the game well, have faith in your abilities, and accomplish the task at hand, stated Robinson.
