Texas Tech senior Chance McMillian has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time in the current season, following his impressive performance of scoring a career-high 27 points in the recent road victory against Oklahoma. McMillian showcased his sharpshooting skills by going 6-for-8 on 3-pointers during the game, contributing significantly to the Red Raiders’ comeback with 17 points and four 3-pointers in the second half.
This outstanding 27-point display adds to McMillian’s solid season, where he currently averages 9.9 points per game overall and 11.2 in Big 12 games. As a transfer from Grand Canyon, McMillian, in his first season with Texas Tech, maintains eligibility for one more season after the current one.
On the other hand, TCU’s Emanuel Miller secured his fourth career Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor and third of the season. Miller’s exceptional performances included averaging 21 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, leading TCU to two road victories. Notably, he recorded a double-double with 21 points and a season-high 11 rebounds in a win against Oklahoma State.
The upcoming clash between No. 15 Texas Tech and No. 25 TCU, featuring McMillian and Miller, is set for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth.
McMillian, who transferred from Grand Canyon, has played all 19 games as a reserve this season, maintaining a strong presence on the court. With 27 points in the recent game against Oklahoma, he surpassed his previous career-high of 24 points and has proven to be a prolific scorer throughout his career, accumulating 858 points and 148 3-pointers in 110 games played.
Joining a select group of former Texas Tech players, McMillian has now earned the title of Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice in a single season, a feat achieved by players such as Bryson Williams (2021-22), Jahmi’us Ramsey (2019-20), John Roberson (2007-08), and Rayford Young (1996-97). No Red Raider player has received this recognition three times.
