Cardiff City FC is thrilled to announce the acquisition of striker Famara Diédhiou, who has joined the club on loan from Granada CF until the end of the current campaign, pending international clearance. The 31-year-old brings valuable Championship experience from his stint with Bristol City, where he impressively scored 46 goals in 154 league appearances.
Diédhiou has an extensive European playing career, featuring for clubs such as Clermont, Angers, Alanyaspor, and Granada, in addition to earning 27 international caps for Senegal. Having played and scored for his country in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he is the latest former Bristol City player to make the move to Cardiff, joining the ranks of Lee Tomlin, Bobby Decordova-Reid, Aden Flint, Marlon Pack, and Callum O’Dowda.
In a statement to Cardiff City TV after completing the move, Famara expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m feeling great. I’m happy to be back in English football. I’m very happy and excited to join the Club. It’s amazing here, it’s a great environment and a good atmosphere.”
Having familiarity with the manager, Erol Bulut, from their time together in Turkey, Famara spoke positively about the ease of joining the team. He also mentioned a conversation with Callum O’Dowda before the move and looks forward to reuniting with him.
Confident in his abilities, Diédhiou emphasized his readiness to contribute, saying, “My confidence is high. I’m ready to do my best for the team. I know I have scored a lot of goals in the Championship, so I hope to do it again.”
Manager Erol Bulut expressed optimism about the new signing, stating, “Famara is a good striker, and the good thing is that he knows the league. He played for Bristol City for four years and scored more than 50 goals there in all competitions.”
Bulut believes Famara’s familiarity with the Championship and his eagerness to prove himself will be valuable assets for Cardiff City in their pursuit of success for the remainder of the season.
