Albert Suárez outperformed Max Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young winner, in a recent game where the Baltimore Orioles triumphed over the Texas Rangers with a score of 2-1. This victory extended the Rangers’ ongoing losing streak.
Scherzer, who is 39 years old, made his second start of the season following a period of recovery from an injury. Despite his efforts, he allowed two runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Nevertheless, the right-handed pitcher achieved a personal milestone and offered a glimmer of hope for the defending World Series champions amidst their disappointing season.

In order for the Rangers, who currently hold a record of 37-45, to reverse their fortunes, they must enhance their offensive performance. Despite Scherzer’s efforts in containing the Orioles’ potent offense, Texas only mustered four hits and scored their sole run in the seventh inning through four walks issued by Orioles relievers, the final one coming with the bases loaded.
Manager Bruce Bochy expressed the difficulty of the situation, emphasizing the team’s struggle to capitalize on opportunities with runners on base and the right hitters at the plate. Despite leaving eight runners on base and only going 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position, Texas remains optimistic for a potential turnaround, drawing on their late-season success from the previous year.
Pitcher Scherzer acknowledged the team’s current rut but also highlighted the potential for momentum to shift quickly in baseball. Suárez’s strong performance on the mound, surrendering only three hits over six innings, contributed to the team’s efforts to break their losing streak. Despite the recent string of losses, Texas continues to strive for improvement and capitalize on scoring opportunities in future games.
