Cal Raleigh secured the victory for the Seattle Mariners in the 10th inning with a walk-off fielder’s choice, driving in the winning run. The Mariners defeated the Minnesota Twins 3-2 on Friday night. Raleigh hit a ground ball to Twins reliever Cole Sands (2-1), who attempted to throw home to prevent J.P. Crawford from scoring. However, the throw was high, allowing Crawford to reach home safely.
This marked Raleigh’s fourth career walk-off and his second of the season. Despite his unconventional hit, Raleigh emphasized the importance of putting the ball in play and making the most of the opportunities presented in baseball. The game began as a pitchers’ duel, with Minnesota’s Bailey Ober and Mariners starter Logan Gilbert delivering strong performances.

Ober faced minimal resistance until the fourth inning, while Gilbert allowed only three hits in the first five innings. The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning with an RBI double from Josh Rojas, but the Twins surged ahead with a two-run homer from Carlos Correa in the sixth inning. Gilbert pitched six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts, while Ober allowed one run on two hits, with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Correa’s home run ended Gilbert’s 21-inning scoreless streak, the longest by a Mariners pitcher this season. Additionally, it marked Gilbert’s 14th quality start in 17 appearances, the best in the major leagues. In five starts in June, Gilbert recorded one walk and 31 strikeouts.
Servais continued to express his admiration for the pitcher’s consistency and leadership on the mound, highlighting his ability to elevate the team’s performance and instill confidence in his teammates.
The manager emphasized the importance of having a reliable ace who can set the tone for the rest of the pitching staff and inspire the entire team to strive for excellence. Despite the tough loss in the game, Servais remained optimistic about the team’s overall performance and praised their resilience in bouncing back to secure a crucial victory in the series.
He credited the pitcher for his unwavering determination and unwavering commitment to success, noting that his contributions were instrumental in propelling the team towards their goals. Overall, Servais’s glowing praise for the top-end starter reflected the team’s appreciation for his invaluable contributions and unwavering dedication to their success.
