According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid stated during Super Bowl media week that it would be a “long shot” for three-time All-Pro guard Joe Thuney to be able to play in the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers.
When the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the playoffs, Thuney initially sustained a pectoral injury. In Thuney’s AFC Championship victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Nick Allegretti was a player.
Joe Thuney, a guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, would be extremely beneficial to the team in the Super Bowl.
Since joining the Chiefs from the New England Patriots, guard Joe Thuney of the Kansas City Chiefs has been a pillar of the team’s defense. Pro Football Focus reports that he has only given up two sacks and committed two penalties so far this season.
For the first time in his eight-year career, Thuney missed a playoff game when he was out of the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. Three-time all-pro Thuney will be missed if he is unable to play against the 49ers because of his experienced presence on the line.
Nate Taylor, a writer for The Athletic who covers the Kansas City Chiefs, stated that Allegretti was serviceable in a Bleacher Report article.
“Nick Allegretti was serviceable, he played up to the level that was necessary against the Baltimore Ravens,” Taylor said.
Should Allegretti’s number be called in the Super Bowl, it would be his fifth career start.
Regardless of Thuney’s condition, the Kansas City Chiefs will face a formidable San Francisco 49ers front in the Super Bowl.
Regardless of whether Joe Thuney is able to play, the San Francisco 49ers have one of the most aggressive pass-rushing fronts in the NFL, and they will be difficult to contain.
The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
