Jalen Brunson Reacts to Knicks Trade for Shooting Guard

The New York Knicks have bolstered their roster ahead of the playoffs, acquiring veteran guard Delon Wright from the Milwaukee Bucks in a deal involving Jericho Sims. While Wright’s playing time with Milwaukee was limited, his experience and defensive ability could make him a valuable addition to the Knicks’ postseason rotation.

Brunson Welcomes Former Teammate

After the trade, Knicks star Jalen Brunson shared his thoughts on Wright’s arrival, expressing enthusiasm about reuniting with his former Dallas Mavericks teammate.

“We’ve always said what’s up to each other… He was a great teammate in Dallas, and I got to know him very well. It’s great to see him.”

Wright and Brunson played together for the Mavericks during the 2019-20 season, where they helped the team reach the playoffs before falling to the LA Clippers in the first round.

What Wright Brings to New York

Wright, a seasoned NBA veteran who has played for nine teams in ten seasons, arrives with modest numbers this season—2.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game—but his defensive versatility and ball-handling ability could be crucial for the Knicks’ depth.

His struggles from the field (26.8% FG, 24.5% 3PT) raise concerns, but on a team that already boasts strong offensive firepower with Brunson, Julius Randle, and Mikal Bridges, Wright’s primary role will likely focus on perimeter defense and playmaking off the bench.

Knicks in Strong Playoff Position

The Knicks (34-17) currently hold the third seed in the Eastern Conference, having won eight of their last ten games. Their next challenge comes against the conference-leading Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

Brunson, in his third season with New York, continues to shine as the team’s leader, averaging:
✅ 26.1 PPG
✅ 2.9 RPG
✅ 7.5 APG
✅ 1.0 SPG
✅ 48.9% FG / 39.7% 3PT

With the addition of Wright, the Knicks hope to solidify their backcourt depth as they push for a deep playoff run.
