A number of Sooners came through in big situations, and several of them hit their first home runs of the year. However, some people always manage to reach the top despite their output. So, who did the best during the trip to Mexico?
In the top of the sixth inning, with the Sooners leading 1-0, Alyssa Brito took the mound.
What was one more home run for the Sooner veteran, who had already blasted one earlier in the game?
Brito easily launched a pitch over the left field wall and crushed it.
On Saturday afternoon, Brito led the Sooners to an 11-3 victory over Long Beach State with two home runs and four RBI. With the victory, the Sooners outscored their opponents 31-6 to conclude their Puerto Vallarta College Challenge trip with a 4-0 record. They are now 10-2 overall. Oklahoma’s winning streak, which began on February 24, 2023, has now reached 57 games, an NCAA record.
The Sooners started the season with a 2-0 record before defeating Utah Valley 13-0 and Duke 3-0 on Thursday in the tournament. With his two victories on Thursday, Gasso moved up to third place all-time with 1,458 career wins, surpassing former Illinois State and Fresno State head coach Margie Wright. Then, on Friday night, the Sooners defeated No. 7/10 Washington 4-3 in extra innings thanks to Rylie Boone’s game-winning RBI in the top of the eighth inning.
Boone stated on the FloSoftball broadcast, “They punched back when we punched, and we punched back when they punched.” “It resembled a World Series match.”

Brito Alyssa
Brito won the title of Most Outstanding Player of the tournament’s opening session because she was the Sooners’ most reliable player the entire trip. Through the four games, she batted.417 (5-of-12) with three home runs, five RBIs, six runs scored, and an OPS of 1.700.
Pickering, Kasidi
With a bang, the freshman made a great introduction to collegiate softball. In her opening at-bat of the tournament, Pickering crushed a grand slam to give the Sooners their first runs of the year. She kept on delivering with unwavering confidence. After leading the Sooners in her collegiate debut with seven RBIs, she was named to the all-tournament team. From the plate, she batted 5-for-11 (.455).
Kelly Maxwell
Maxwell’s arrival to the Sooners from Oklahoma State was highly anticipated. And she fulfilled it. Maxwell won both of her starts in the circle, throwing 7.2 innings without giving up any runs while only giving up one hit and four strikeouts. Additionally, she was named to the all-tournament team.
