HIGHLIGHT: The former £35 million star of West Ham has seen his career collapse due to his preoccupation with PlayStation.
‘Addicted to PlayStation’: Premier League player who cost £35 million Addiction frequently causes a football player’s performance to suffer.
Although many gamers have given in to the allure of alcohol, gambling, or other vices over time, PlayStation addiction is a relatively contemporary problem. But it’s said that Gianluca Scamacca’s value has decreased at Atalanta due to the habit.
Sport Witness cited a story by the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, which said that due to his gaming habit, Scamacca, who previously transferred to West Ham in a transaction of £35 million, is no longer the same player. The report said that during Atalanta’s most recent 1-1 draw with AC Milan, Italy’s Scamacca was treated like a “foreign body” and was advised to “change his tune” if he so desired.
In the summer of 2022, the Hammers signed Scamacca from Serie A team Sassuolo for an initial fee of £30.5 million (plus £5 million in bonuses). The Daily Star claims that the next year, he was sent to Italy while the east Londoners received a £22.5 million return on their investment along with an additional £4 million in add-ons.
It appears unlikely, though, that West Ham will get those extra bonus dollars because Gian Piero Gasperini is reportedly becoming sick of the player’s antics. Although Italy’s head coach Luciano Spalletti has forbade his players from playing video games, it appears Scamacca is prepared to disobey his orders.
In retrospect, it appears that David Moyes’ group made the proper choice with Scamacca. The 25-year-old striker was forced to miss the conclusion of the season due to knee surgery, despite scoring eight goals in 27 outings for the Premier League team.
His first eight league games with Atalanta saw him score five goals, thus he got off to a good start. However, after that, his play collapsed, and he has only managed to score once in his previous 11 Serie A games.
The 25-year-old Scamacca, who stands at 6’5″ and is renowned for his incredible goals, is in a critical stage in his career. The footballer, who was born in Rome, must now choose between staying the same and making significant changes.
