Nico Schulz, who had been participating in training sessions at Sheffield Wednesday recently, has been instructed to pay a six-figure sum prior to the discontinuation of a charge against him.
The 30-year-old German international, whose Borussia Dortmund contract was terminated last year amidst allegations, appeared in court on Wednesday facing three counts of grievous bodily harm against a former partner. On the same day, the verdict was delivered.
Reportedly, Schulz has been ordered to pay €30,000 each to five different non-profit organizations, including women’s charities, totaling €150,000. If he fulfills this payment within three months, the case will be discontinued.
Reports also indicated that the 36-year-old former partner declined to testify in court. Additionally, before the trial, Schulz had reportedly paid his ex-partner an undisclosed amount of damages.
When questioned about Wednesday’s plans regarding Schulz after Saturday’s crucial 2-1 victory over Bristol City, Owls manager Danny Röhl refrained from providing detailed insights. He simply stated to The Star, “Nico trained well. Now we will see what happens next week, and then I can provide you with the information.”
The club’s decision regarding Schulz’s future at Middlewood Road remains uncertain following the recent verdict. However, Röhl will be expected to provide further updates on any developments or interest in the left-back during his media briefing on Thursday afternoon, preceding the game against Rotherham United this weekend.
