As stated on Yankees social media:
INF Jahmai Jones was claimed by the Yankees earlier today off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Yankees placed INF Jordan Groshans on the disabled list in order to create space on the 40-man roster.
Having previously been released by the Miami Marlins this offseason, this marks his second DFA. Now, the Yankees have seven days to deal him, cut him loose, or demote him to the minor leagues.
From 2020 to 2022, he was in the Top 100 prospects (as reported by MLB.com) three times in a row, peaking at No. 46 in 2021. Groshans is still only 24 years old, so there’s still a potential that as he gets older, he’ll discover who he is, but that hasn’t occurred yet. He has batted.262 in 61 major league at-bats in his career. Last season, he hit just.244 at Triple-A, with just six home runs.
You would have to think that he will receive a shot someplace, whether it’s in the minor leagues with the Yankees or in another organization, considering his age and past prospect pedigree.
