The Indianapolis Colts’ 2023 NFL season came to an abrupt end at Lucas Oil Stadium as C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans defeated the Horseshoe to win the AFC South and a postseason berth. The Colts would be hoisting another division title banner if they emerged victorious in that Week 18 primetime contest. Kylen Granson, a tight end for the Colts, stopped by The Ride With JMV on Thursday in studio to discuss how the season concluded.
The 6’3 tight end was asked if there were any other games or moments from the season that he looked back on as a major reason for the Colts’ absence from the postseason. JMV brought up the Colts’ late fourth quarter and two mistakes in Week 18, which could have set the team up to beat Houston and win the division. Granson answered, “Cleveland,” alluding to the late-game play in which the Browns, led by backup quarterback P.J. Walker, drove down the field in the fourth quarter to score the game-winning touchdown and win. Two contentious pass interference calls against the Colts defense during the last drive gave Cleveland a second and third opportunity to win.
However, I believe there were a few games that were unquestionably against us as well. In several games, we performed poorly, and it was evident. For whatever reason, we always seem to start out slowly. We start out a little slow and then gather up speed every year that I’ve been here.
Following that, Granson and JMV discuss the former SMU tight end’s reasons for missing his NFL Combine a few years ago, his plans for the offseason, how his upbringing differs from JMV’s, and the community service program that Granson is spearheading with Kroger. The native Hoosier is holding a book drive, just like last year. In order to give books, his nonprofit, KG’s Kids, is collaborating with nearby Kroger shops.
