Been instructed to avoid getting in touch with their young star, Victor Wembanyama, after 9:30 p.m.
The reason for this is that the Frenchman follows a rigid bedtime routine that includes reading for an hour.
Jordan Howenstine, the director of basketball communications for the Spurs, disclosed the oddity to The Athletic.
“That’s when he spends an hour reading,” Howenstine clarified. “After that, he sleeps.”
It was also mentioned that the 2023 No. 1 overall choice usually goes to bed at 10:30 p.m. after finishing his nightly reading.
The 20-year-old, who is 7 feet 4 inches tall, has been praised by several in the Spurs organization as one of the smartest young players they have ever seen in the NBA.
According to former Spurs All-Star turned analyst Sean Elliott, “Victor is one of the two smartest teenagers I’ve seen play the game.”
Naturally, LeBron James would be the other. Those two instantly sprang to mind. Furthermore, I must admit that Victor’s basketball IQ is higher than Kobe Bryant’s at the same age.
“Victor is a very intelligent individual overall.” When he has free time, he enjoys reading.
“You typically see young players playing video games during their free time.” Thus, he’s already a highly sharp and determined young man.
Over his first 37 NBA games, Wembanyama has averaged 20.3 points and 10 rebounds.
Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers put on a historic performance that left Wembanyama and the Spurs on the losing end, despite his intellect for a young player.
With the highest point total in the NBA this season—70—Embiid’s performance on Monday night helped the Philadelphia 76ers defeat the San Antonio Spurs 133-123.
He made 21 of 23 free throws and was 24 of 41 from the field, including 1 of 2 from 3-point range. Embiid recorded a career-high 18 rebounds as well.
