Before losing to the Detroit Lions last weekend, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had an incredible 2023 season, capturing the NFC South and securing a postseason victory. A breakout season from first overall pick turned journeyman Baker Mayfield, who threw for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns against ten picks, was the driving force behind the team’s offensive success.
Dave Canales, the offensive coordinator in his first season, was the architect of the offense and went on to become the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers. The Bucs intend to interview a former longtime NFL coach next week in order to fill the post of offensive coordinator. Tampa Bay is scheduled to speak with former Buffalo Bills play caller Ken
The next week, Ken Dorsey will be interviewed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After serving as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills for ten games this season, he was fired. The play-calling duties were taken over by Joe Brady, the quarterbacks coach. Because of Josh Allen’s turnover issues, the Bills have not scored more than 25 points in any of Dorsey’s previous six games. In the game after Dorsey’s dismissal, they scored 32 points.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the season 9-8, winning the NFC South and clinching a home game during Super Wild Card Weekend. The Bucs dominated the Philadephia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs, beating them 32-9. Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 337 yards and three scores against no picks. However, Tampa Bay fell to the Detroit Lions in the following round, 31-23. The Bucs must find a new offensive coordinator, with Dave Canales darting for the Carolina Panthers.
Mayfield, who posted near career numbers this season, will have yet another offensive coordinator, an unfortunate trend for the signal-caller. The newest OC for the Bucs will mark his eighth in as many years. He went through four separate signal callers during his time with the Browns.
