Rangers F.C
After Rangers’ loss to Benfica, Cyriel Dessers share’s what was said in the team’s locker room.
After Benfica eliminated Rangers from the Europa League, Cyriel Dessers revealed what transpired inside the Ibrox home dressing room.
The Light Blues secured an impressive 2-2 draw in Lisbon the previous week, and they were buoyed by the fact that the second leg would be played at home.
More of the same fervor and enthusiasm from the stands were needed to defeat Benfica, as the Ibrox roar played a major role in the team’s amazing run to the Europa League Final in 2022.
Sadly, it was not to be as the Rangers just did not show up. After a VAR offside check, the Portuguese powerhouses were not much challenged defensively and secured their advancement with a solo goal from Rafa Silva.
Rangers’ play on the ball wasn’t rapid enough to test Benfica’s shape, but Cyriel Dessers, a striker, believes the starting team gave it their all.
He added that the Ibrox home dressing room was generally filled with pride following the game, and that the performance could be looked back on with pride.
“We were talking about it in the shower; the match against Benfica was really intense.” The game was moving at such a fast speed. However, it’s evident to all that we’re really hungry, physically fit, and just want more.
“We want to press on and not give up. Yes, we will. After a time, especially against a strong club like Benfica, you start to feel your legs.
Then again, there’s this fan synergy. They uplift us. As you take the corner, you can feel the excitement in the stadium. That provides us with the drive to keep going. We require that from our fans
This ought to instill confidence in us. We must use the game’s positives as motivation to play hard once more. This season, the league is the top priority. To that end, we must exert every effort.
This season, we have a ton of things to play for. It’s something we know very well in the changing area. It’s encouraging that this team has the experience to go back to Dundee and build on the victory on Thursday.
“Beautiful things are possible if we can bring the level we’ve demonstrated in Europe to the league and the cup.”
