LATEST: The four Southampton players who might actually be sold this summer for a profit

At the first opportunity, Southampton is vying for promotion back to the Premier League under Russell Martin.
The Saints are now in the running for an automatic promotion, but they are also competing with Leicester City, Leeds United, and Ipswich Town for a spot in the top two. They fell behind the top two after losing three games in February, but they have since resumed winning streaks.
There will be a lot of departures from Saints next season, regardless of the division they play in.
Last summer, Martin let go of several players, which prompted St Mary’s to begin rebuilding. Even while it was expected that certain players would leave permanently, several have not yet done so.

Here we take a look at the players that we expect Southampton to potentially sell in the summer for a transfer fee.
Paul Onuachu
Onuachu joined from Belgian team Genk in January 2023, reportedly paying £15.8 million for the transfer.
He would go on to make 11 appearances but without a goal as Southampton was relegated after finishing bottom of the Premier League.
Due to his lack of success, the Nigerian international was loaned to Trabzonspor in Turkey in September.
With double digit goal involvements, he has performed well in Turkey as they aim for Europa League football the next season.
The 29-year-old’s prospects at St. Mary’s appear dismal, and it’s probable that the Saints will try to sell Onuachu in the summer in an effort to recover the majority of the money they spent in January of last year on him thanks to his excellent year.
James Bree
Like Onuachu, Bree also arrived in January of last year. Nathan Jones signed him after working with him at Luton Town in the past.
He signed for an alleged £750,000, taking advantage of the fact that his contract was about to expire at the end of the current campaign to obtain him on the cheap.
The right back failed to secure a starting position in the team, making just five appearances in the previous campaign.
Martin’s entrance has not lessened his influence; the 26-year-old is still surpassed by Kyle Walker-Peters. Due to this, Bree has played in relatively few Championship games this year.
Bree’s chances of playing more will only be hampered by a possible promotion to the top tier; as a result, he might wish to go in quest of consistent playing time, probably with a Championship team. It’s conceivable that saints will prosper as well.
Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz, another January acquisition from the previous campaign, was viewed by many as a successful addition from what was otherwise a disappointing window for the team.
The Argentine came from his native country’s Racing Club.
Due to his outstanding achievements, South American teams and Portuguese powerhouse Benfica expressed interest in signing him for the summer. He did, however, decide to stay, and in October he even inked a new five-year contract.
But in January, he went on loan to Juventus in Italy; as part of the agreement, he had the option to buy the team for an allegedly high £40 million.
Although the 21-year-old has only made a few games in the Italian Serie A, the 36-time Italian champions may yet exercise their option to purchase him because of his skill and promise.
Kyle Walker-Peters
Walker-Peters could leave as well, given how excellent he has been this season, in addition to Bree.
He had been linked to a number of prominent clubs during the last two transfer windows.
It has recently been reported that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur would both be eager to bring him back to North London.
The right back spent the second half of the previous season on loan before committing to St Mary’s on a permanent basis in August 2020.
Walker-Peters, though, would probably prefer to depart in search of Premier League football if Saints are not promoted.
