One individual appears to be emerging as the frontrunner to succeed David Moyes as the new manager of West Ham United, once Moyes departs.

David Moyes has encountered significant setbacks since the start of the year, but there’s little sympathy to spare as his troubles largely stem from his own decisions.

Despite claims from insiders at the London Stadium suggesting Moyes’s future won’t be decided until the season concludes, it’s evident that his time at West Ham is coming to an end. His tenure has been marked by poor football and a dismal performance in 2024, signaling his inevitable departure.

Now, it seems West Ham is on the brink of appointing Moyes’s successor, with a manager poised to sign a three-year contract once Moyes exits.

The club’s owners appear to be positioning themselves to bring in a long-term replacement for Moyes. However, the name currently linked with the role is somewhat uninspiring.

Reports suggest that Julen Lopetegui, currently without a job, will join West Ham on a three-year deal this summer. While this claim is bold, it’s disappointing that the club’s ambition doesn’t seem to match the fans’ hopes for a more dynamic choice.

Although initial reports of advanced talks with Lopetegui were refuted, rumors of his potential appointment have resurfaced. However, if Lopetegui does take over from Moyes, there’s skepticism about his ability to elevate the team to the next level.

At 57, Lopetegui is known for a pragmatic approach and typically employs a slower style of play. Many fans are hoping for a manager who will inject excitement and transform the team into a more attractive, dynamic force on the field.

While support will be given to whoever takes over, many fans feel that Lopetegui may not be the ideal candidate to lead West Ham forward. Instead, they express a desire for someone like Arne Slot or Paulo Fonseca to replace Moyes when the time comes.
