League Express understands that the WARRINGTON WOLVES have not yet made a formal offer for South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Tom Burgess.

The rumor that Tom Burgess had been discussing a possible transfer to the Cheshire club with his brother Sam, the current head coach at Warrington, surfaced yesterday.

There have undoubtedly been discussions about Tom moving to the UK to live with his brother Sam as his contract will expire at the end of the 2024 NRL season.

Burgess expressed his desire to remain at Souths to the Sydney Morning Herald. “My top goal is to continue the dream because I would really like to do it. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to stay at Souths for this long, and all I want to do is continue to play well for Souths every game that I play.

“I understand that fairytales aren’t always true, and at the end of the day, this is just a company. I know I’ll have to seek elsewhere if we are unable to reach a consensus. I still think I can bring a lot of value to the game.

“My partner and I are open to the idea of going to the Super League and going to England or France, but we would prefer to stay in Australia because we have a small family.”

“I would still consider the Super League after that, even if I were to play in the NRL the following year.” Sam has been whispering in my ear that Warrington is a possibility. He is my brother, which is a plus, but that doesn’t imply things are inevitable.

League Express is aware that Warrington has not yet made a formal offer on Tom, but if Souths do not extend their contract, the deal is expected to close in 2025.

Tom began his NRL career in 2011 and played 45 games for the Bradford Bulls in 2012 before joining the South Sydney Rabbitohs, where he has remained until now.

In more than a decade, the massive England international has made 225 appearances for the Rabbitohs.
