Andrew Cole, a five-time Premier League champion, and John Terry, Chelsea’s most successful captain, were selected from a shortlist of 15 former players. Their induction followed a combination of fan votes from around the world and assessments by the Premier League Awards Panel.
Cole, renowned for his prolific goal-scoring prowess, is the fourth-highest goal-scorer in Premier League history, with 187 goals from 414 appearances. Notably, he clinched the Golden Boot in his debut Premier League season with Newcastle United in 1993/94, netting 34 goals. Cole continued his success at Manchester United, winning five Premier League titles and contributing crucial goals in the club’s historic Treble-winning campaign.
Expressing his pride, Cole remarked, “Football is a game of ups and downs, but I enjoyed every single minute of my career.” He credited his achievements to his family, coaches, and teammates, emphasizing the joy derived from winning major honors.
On the other hand, Terry, revered as Chelsea’s stalwart, led the club to five Premier League titles and holds various defensive records in the league. His leadership and defensive prowess were instrumental in Chelsea’s triumphs, notably securing the title in the 2004/05 season after a 50-year drought. Terry expressed gratitude for his induction, reflecting on his dedication to the game and the cherished memories of his illustrious career.
Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters hailed both Cole and Terry as worthy additions to the Hall of Fame, acknowledging their significant contributions to their respective teams and the sport as a whole.
