As the owner of the King and I Thai restaurant, Popcorn is no stranger to giving back to the community. Since his 59th birthday in 2020, he has been running his age in miles as a means of raising awareness and funds for various non-profit organizations. His inspiration stemmed from witnessing the struggles faced by others during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly those lining up at food banks for assistance.
Despite facing health challenges in 2021, including a diagnosis of lymphoma and undergoing aggressive chemotherapy, Popcorn’s determination and resilience have not wavered. He continues to pursue his passion for running and charitable giving.
Over the past three years, Popcorn has raised approximately $10,000 for different charities, and this year, he is dedicating his efforts to the Special Olympics. Recognizing the significant financial burdens associated with supporting athletes in the Special Olympics, Popcorn hopes his fundraising endeavors will make a meaningful difference in their lives.
With a current fundraising total of around $3,000, Popcorn remains committed to raising more funds to support the Special Olympics and its athletes. Despite uncertainties about the outcome, Popcorn’s optimism and dedication shine through, as he eagerly anticipates the positive impact his efforts will have on the lives of the participants.
Through his selfless act of running for a cause, Popcorn exemplifies the spirit of generosity and community support, demonstrating that even the smallest actions can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
