The path to the Super Bowl just became tougher for the Baltimore Ravens on March 14. Their main AFC rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, bolstered their roster with a significant free agency acquisition: Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brown, formerly of the Ravens and Cardinals, is set to sign a one-year deal with the Chiefs, providing quarterback Patrick Mahomes with a new offensive weapon.

During his final season in Baltimore in 2021, Brown showcased his skills with 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. Schefter later clarified that Brown’s deal with the Chiefs could be worth up to $11 million for one year.

Brown’s addition strengthens a Chiefs receiving corps that had been considered one of their weaker positions, despite Rashee Rice’s emergence towards the end of the previous season and playoffs.

With Brown joining tight end Travis Kelce and potentially more additions to come, Mahomes will have a formidable array of targets, reminiscent of the Chiefs’ strategy before the 2022 season when they added Juju Smith-Schuster as their primary receiver.

Since the departure of Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs have been searching for a true number one receiver to complement Kelce. Despite this, they have still managed to win the past two Super Bowls with a rotating cast of receivers.

For Brown, the move to Kansas City presents an opportunity to rebound from his dissatisfaction with Baltimore’s run-first offense and his mixed results with the Arizona Cardinals. Injuries to both Brown and Cardinals’ quarterback Kyler Murray hampered their potential offensive synergy.

Despite the Ravens’ earlier acquisition of running back Derrick Henry, which was seen as potentially narrowing the gap with or even surpassing the Chiefs in AFC favoritism, the addition of Brown to Kansas City’s roster has shifted the odds back in favor of the defending champions.

As per Vegas Insiders, the Chiefs are now listed as +360 favorites to win the AFC championship, with the Ravens trailing slightly at +425. Similarly, the Chiefs have better odds than the Ravens to win the Super Bowl, listed at +600 compared to the Ravens’ +900 odds, with the San Francisco 49ers currently holding the top spot at +500.
