Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres has hit a snag as the Sporting star appears more inclined towards joining Serie A giants AC Milan rather than making a move to the Premier League, according to sources from GIVEMESPORT.

Gyokeres, who only arrived in Portugal in July, has attracted attention from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. The Gunners have closely monitored his performances, aware of the competition for his signature. Despite Gyokeres’ fruitful season at Sporting, where he scored 32 goals and provided 11 assists in 35 appearances since leaving Coventry City, he harbors ambitions of a new challenge in Europe.

Reports suggest that Gyokeres is leaning towards AC Milan over a Premier League switch if he decides to leave Sporting in the summer. AC Milan’s strong position to initiate negotiations further complicates Arsenal’s pursuit of the 25-year-old striker.

Although Arsenal had eyed Gyokeres as a potential alternative to Brentford’s Ivan Toney, the Swedish striker’s preference for AC Milan comes as a blow to Arteta’s plans. Gyokeres’ impressive statistics, which include better goal-scoring form compared to Toney, have only added to his allure.

Arsenal, who have been admirers of Gyokeres for some time, could trigger a release clause of around £86 million to bolster their chances of securing his signature. However, Sporting’s reluctance to part ways with him unless his release clause is met presents a challenge.

Furthermore, Chelsea have also expressed interest in Gyokeres, with manager Mauricio Pochettino considering him as one of his targets. However, a potential mid-season move to Stamford Bridge failed to materialize, leaving his future uncertain as the summer transfer window approaches.
