GREEN BAY PACKERS

AJ Dillon awaits his next opportunity.

Running back AJ Dillon of the Packers is a free agent. There has been no mention of his name after two days of the permissible tampering time.

It has now.

From Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, here’s an attempt to start the lawnmower: “Free agency running back AJ Dillon has multiple choices outside of Green Bay, with reports indicating he is considering the #Giants, #Colts, and #Cowboys since the #Packers have revamped their RB room.”

First, inside Green Bay, he might not have a choice. The Packers allegedly weren’t planning to re-sign him as of last week. The Packers appear to be taking a fresh tack at tailback after investing a large sum of money in Josh Jacobs.

Second, does it really matter if he is “looking at” the Cowboys, Giants, and Colts? They’ve got

to be staring at him.

Last year, the same thing took place. Running back Ezekiel Elliott has reduced his options to the Bengals, Eagles, and Jets, according to a leak to a reporter who was all too eager to play the quid pro quo game. It was soon evident that Elliott was not a desirable addition to any of those clubs.

This is precisely that. an effort to ignite a nonexistent market. It makes no difference to whom Dillon is “looking at.” When someone considers making him a contract offer, it matters. As of right moment, there’s been no sign that this will occur anytime soon.

Dillon, a second-round selection in 2020, averaged 3.4 yards per carry while rushing for 613 yards on 178 carries in 2023.
