Following a commanding victory over Roberto Carballes Baena in his Miami Open opener, Carlos Alcaraz’s outstanding form continued.

Last week in the Indian Wells Open, Alcaraz successfully defended his championship. This was his first championship since his victory at Wimbledon in July of last year, and it decisively silenced any doubters about the Spaniard.

Nevertheless, a few sporting icons have identified some aspects in which the 20-year-old still has room for improvement. Mats Wilander, for instance, believes Alcaraz must learn how to prevail even when he is not performing at his peak.

Alcaraz will face a man he knows well in his Miami debut bout. When Carballes Baena, his compatriot, saw Alcaraz play at the age of fifteen, he remembered him being extremely slender.

Since then, the world No. 2 has made amazing development, and Alcaraz once again proved his superiority by defeating Carballes Baena, who was battling back with all of his might.

From the beginning of the match, Alcaraz established his dominance. He opened the opening game with some fierce baseline hitting, and it was obvious that his older opponent was unaccustomed to playing someone who smacked the ball with the kind of force that Alcaraz possesses.

When he was able to prolong the rallies and outscored Alcaraz in rallies over nine shots, Carballes Baena was happy. The problem was that Carballes Baena’s opponent’s firepower prevented him from having enough opportunities to do this.

Alcaraz never had any problems serving during the first set and broke again in the sixth game. He won the set 6-2 with ease and left Carballes Baena with a mountain TO CLIMB.

For the world No. 64 to have a realistic chance, the next set needed to get off to a strong start. But the reverse took place. In the opening game of the set, which featured a breathtaking drop volley from the Wimbledon champion, Alcaraz broke once more.

Carballes Baena is a fierce and committed competitor who gave it his best. In a lengthy fifth game of the set, he saved two break opportunities, but he was unable to prevent his countryman from breaking again.

Carballes Baena made an attempt, but he lacked the firepower to stop Alcaraz. The two-time Grand Slam champion put on another outstanding display and cruised to a 6-2 6-1 triumph.
