Amidst the lawsuit, commanders release K Brandon McManus.

Three months earlier, the Commanders signed veteran kicker Brandon McManus with the expectation that he would give them an upgrade at the position by 2024. The former Jaguars kicker was mentioned in a sexual assault complaint last week, although he angrily refuted the claims. However, the Commanders don’t seem to be taking any chances, since they announced today that McManus has been released.

Joey Slye spent little more than two years on the Washington squad before being granted free agency. Slye missed eight of 73 extra point attempts and 10 of 66 field goal attempts while he was a member of the team. Although McManus hasn’t had much better success in the last two seasons—he has missed 15 of 58 field goals—he is far more experienced than Slye, 28, and has at least been more reliable when it comes to extra points.

However, last week, anonymous plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against McManus and his former team, alleging that McManus had been rubbing and grinding against them, offering them money to drink with, and dancing inappropriately for him. Jacksonville was accused of encouraging this behavior by neglecting to supervise. The two ladies were part of the flight crew that operated the team’s aircraft when the event occurred, but they are no longer employed as flight attendants.
