The Blues sent out an official club press release to WSL Full-Time this evening with the news.

Merricks, who most recently captained the England Under-19 team, has joined Birmingham City. She takes over for previous Blues manager Darren Carter, who resigned from the position last week after serving in it for more than two years.

Merricks acquired coaching expertise while holding a variety of positions at his previous team, Brighton & Hove Albion. During her tenure with the Sussex club, she held positions as assistant manager of the first squad and head coach of the development team. The 30-year-old collaborated with manager Hope Powell, who is currently Birmingham City’s women’s technical director, for over five of her years at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Merricks will have three years at St Andrew’s to assemble a team that can win the Barclays Women’s Championship title, after Birmingham City’s ambitions of promotion have been dashed for another season.

“It’s an honor to join Birmingham City at a critical point in their journey and I’m excited to get straight to work with such a talented group of players,” Merricks stated after joining the Blues.

“I was immediately drawn to the opportunity to take this club to new heights after learning about the goals of Garry Cook, Hope Powell, and the Board, as well as the rich history Birmingham already has in the women’s game.”

On Tuesday morning, Merricks formally begins working with Birmingham City.
