Following Angel Reese’s selection by the Chicago Sky with the seventh overall pick in the WNBA Draft, the 6-foot-3 forward and her old college coach, Kim Mulkey, exchanged warm embraces.

Mulkey watched from Brooklyn as Reese was selected in a star-studded draft that ESPN aired live. Caitlin Clark of Iowa was selected by the Indiana Fever with the first overall choice.

Mulkey was there to give Reese an embrace as she left the stage following her draft. For a time, the two held on to one other, savoring the moment that marked the end of Reese’s two fruitful seasons in Baton Rouge.

Mulkey and Reese have had a very emotional few weeks after losing to Iowa in the Elite Eight to lose their bid for a second straight national championship.

Last week, Mulkey battled back tears as she described a challenging season, while Reese broke down in tears as she discussed her challenging year after the Iowa loss.
