Angel Reese assisted LSU in winning its first-ever national championship last year.

Reese’s Tigers lost to Iowa in the Elite Eight of this season. In the national championship game on Sunday afternoon, the Gamecocks earned their second title in as many seasons after the Hawkeyes, captained by Caitlin Clark, lost to South Carolina.

Notwithstanding the intense rivalry between LSU and South Carolina, Reese praised the Gamecocks on X/Twitter after the game.

Reese also shouted out South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley in a subsequent tweet.

“I’m sooo happy for @dawnstaley!! As a black women, I admire what you’ve done! You always checked on me & always loved me like your own!” she said.

Reese declared last week that she will be joining the WNBA, where she is expected to be selected in the top 10.

“She’s simply lethal in the paint,” an ESPN WNBA general manager stated. “Her athleticism and quickness allow her to maneuver around bigger players, which makes her very effective even when they are against her. She is not afraid to be struck. Two people can hang on to her when she gets hit.”

Reese transferred from Maryland to LSU, where she spent two seasons averaging 20.9 points and 14.4 rebounds per game.
