As Duke potentially considers one transfer portal prospect for the upcoming season, the team faced another departure as one of its players decided to enter his name into the portal on Thursday. Freshman forward TJ Power revealed via social media his intention to pursue his career at another institution.

Expressing gratitude to Duke while acknowledging the need to prioritize his own path, Power stated, “Duke will always have a place in my heart, but it’s time to do what’s best for me. With that being said, I will be entering my name in the transfer portal.”

Standing at 6 feet 9 inches, Power appeared in 26 games for Duke during their 27-9 season, albeit without any starts. He averaged a mere 6.7 minutes of playing time per game. Power’s decision to enter the transfer portal adds him to the list of five other Blue Devils who have done the same this month: guards Jeremy Roach, Jaylen Blakes, Jaden Schutt, forward Mark Mitchell, and center Christian Reeves.

Roach is also exploring the NBA Draft option. Additionally, two of Duke’s previous season starters, guard Jared McCain and forward Kyle Filipowski, are pursuing opportunities in the NBA. Meanwhile, reserve center Ryan Young has exhausted his NCAA eligibility.

With six freshmen set to join Duke this summer, including top recruit 6-foot-9 forward Cooper Flagg, the team has three scholarships available for potential transfer portal additions.

One prospect currently on Duke’s radar is Maliq Brown, a 6-foot-8 forward who spent the past two seasons at Syracuse. Hailing from Virginia, Brown earned a spot on the all-ACC defensive team last season with the Orange.

If Brown chooses Duke, he could join forces with Flagg and 7-foot-1 freshman center Khaman Maluach to solidify the team’s interior presence next season. Guards Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster, both starters from last season, are set to return for the upcoming campaign.

In addition to Brown, Duke’s incoming freshman class includes 6-foot-6 forward Darren Harris, 6-foot-11 center Patrick Ngongba, 6-foot-6 forward Isaiah Evans, and 6-foot-5 forward Kon Knueppel.

Following Power’s decision to enter the transfer portal, 6-foot-9 freshman forward Sean Stewart remains the only player from last season’s team yet to announce his plans for the upcoming season.
