Arizona took 18 games to secure eight wins in 2024, spanning over a month into the season. Just over a week later, the Wildcats found themselves three games below .500 following a disappointing home defeat to New Mexico State.

However, since that stumble, their performance has been flawless.

On Monday, UA clinched their eighth consecutive victory, dominating Stanford with a 12-1 win in eight innings during a nonconference matchup to cap off a perfect 4-0 road trip.

With a current record of 18-13, the Wildcats have achieved five consecutive road wins, marking their longest road victory streak since their final six road wins in 2019, and their first road victory of the 2020 season. Contrastingly, last year they struggled with a 4-14 overall record, including a dismal 2-13 record in Pac-12 play.

Mason White was instrumental in the victory, smashing two 3-run home runs. The first one secured the lead for Arizona in the 3rd inning, while the second, in the 8th inning, enforced the mercy rule. White, a sophomore, has accumulated 13 home runs and 45 RBI this season while maintaining a batting average of .306.

Despite limited hits, Arizona managed to supplement their offense with five walks and four hit batters. A notable offensive surge occurred in the 4th inning, where they scored four runs without recording a hit, extending their lead to 8-1.

Brendan Summerhill and Richie Morales each crossed home plate three times, while Xavier Esquer, son of Stanford coach David Esquer, contributed with a single, an RBI, and several solid defensive plays at 2nd base.

Left-handed pitcher Bradon Zastrow earned the win after delivering 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, replacing starter Josh Morano, who allowed a run on four hits in his 1.2 innings pitched. The win came after Arizona pitchers had an impressive streak of 23.1 innings and 95 batters faced without issuing a walk.

The bullpen further solidified the victory with Eric Orloff pitching two scoreless innings, followed by Anthony ‘Tonko’ Susac and Bryce McKnight each delivering a clean inning.

Arizona’s team ERA, which ranked 20th in Division I prior to the game, dropped to 3.94. Additionally, the UA staff maintained their impressive performance, ranking third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.55) and first in walks per 9 innings (2.64).

The Wildcats will return home on Friday to host Louisiana Tech for a three-game series, filling in a bye in the Pac-12 schedule due to only 11 schools participating in baseball. Louisiana Tech, with a record of 25-9, began their season with an impressive 12-0 streak.
