Baltimore Ravens: The One “Comical” Kyle Hamilton Scandal That May Serve As A Model For Securing A Huge 2024 NFL Draft Pick

When Kyle Hamilton, a current NFL prospect, performed poorly in the 2022 NFL Draft Combine, his stock declined. Hamilton is currently a member of the Baltimore Ravens. He dropped all the way to the No. 14 place, despite being one of the top defensive backs in his class.

Data analyst Matt Edwards found it “comical” that other clubs passed him up merely because the former Fighting Irish from Notre Dame ran a 4.59-second 40-yard sprint (source: Marcel Louis-Jacque of ESPN).

Edwards found the worry regarding Hamilton’s speed amusing at the time, especially considering that the Baltimore Ravens selected him 14th overall that year, made the All-Rookie team in 2022, and was named an All-Pro in 2023. “I thought, ‘How come nobody is predicting that this guy is going to be amazing?'” stated Edwards.

“I have a video of that. And that’s where the heated argument between scouts’ observations based on film and analytics begins. I mean, this kid is pretty good, I’ve seen him. While his 40-second time at the combine may not be particularly impressive, he might be discussed for his closing speed and direction changes.

The Baltimore Ravens are selecting late in the first round—30th overall, to be exact—in the 2023 NFL Draft, and they will be hoping to pull off another major steal.

Kyle Hamilton was a huge steal for the Baltimore Ravens.

In the end, the Ravens’ faith in Hamilton paid off. Hamilton became an NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowler for the first time in just his second season. He recorded 81 total tackles, 3.0 sacks, four interceptions, and 13 passes defensed in 2023.
