Bastian Schweinsteiger gives a “strong” assessment following West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen’s draw.

On Friday, March 15, West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen drew in the Europa League quarterfinals. Bastian Schweinsteiger delivered his assessment.

On Thursday, March 14, at the London Stadium, the Hammers overcame a 1-0 deficit against Freiburg in the first leg, winning 5-0 to move from the round of 16.

Xabi Alonso’s club, who hasn’t lost a game this season and avoided a stunning defeat to Qarabag FK in the Europa League, has been named as West Ham’s next opponent. They are now the most successful team in Europe.

The Bayern Munich legend posted on X on Friday, March 15, saying, “The Europa League encounters promise great excitement and a lot of quality.”

West Ham has demonstrated their are formidable rivals who will hold Bayer Leverkusen accountable for everything.

It is a tall order for West Ham to win over two legs, even if Leverkusen was almost eliminated from the competition by the top team in Azerbaijan.

The Hammers’ 2024 campaign has been a rollercoaster of emotions thus far. They went eight games without a victory before defeating Brentford 4-2 and then pulling off an exciting comeback victory over Everton.

David Moyes has been under increasing criticism at the London Stadium as supporters have criticized his defensive style of play in spite of having a roster full of very gifted strikers.

The results of the @ChampionsLeague quarterfinals have held true to what they have said. Both German clubs have already made a big name for themselves and are able to show off their comebacks against domestic rivals. Still, I see the @BVB as an outsider in the party.

The first-leg loss of 1-0 to Freiburg and the 2-2 draw with Burnley did not help with that. A much-needed offensive lineup helped win back some fans, though, after the team defeated the Bundesliga team 5-0.

West Ham can defeat anyone with Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, and Mohammed Kudus at their peak, but Leverkusen are a very different team and might put an end to their aspirations to win consecutive European trophies.
