The former Hawkeye has found a new home. On Tuesday night, the Stingers of Edmonton announced that they have signed Ben Krikke to a contract. This past season, Krikke started all 34 games, averaging 28.6 minutes.
Krikke was efficient from the field ranking fourth in the Big Ten in field goal percentage, 11th in field goals and 18th in points (469). He had eight 20-point games, including a season-high 25 points (10-of-14 FG), nine rebounds and four steals in the win over Arkansas State and 25 points on 11- of-17 shooting in the road win at Minnesota.
“I am really excited to be back home in Edmonton and play for such an amazing organization,” said Krikke. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to play in such a great league and compete for a championship.”
“We are very excited to have Ben begin his professional career with the Stingers.” said Stingers head coach and general manager Jordan Baker. “As one of the most talented players Edmonton has ever produced, Ben is poised to have a very impactful summer in the CEBL. I am confident he will contribute in a meaningful way both on and off the court from day one.”
The Edmontonian represented Team Canada on the U17 squad at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup; he averaged 9.9 points helping Canada to a fourth place finish. He was the only member of the team not from Ontario or Quebec. It was his second of two tournaments with the national team, also playing in the 2017 U16 FIBA Americas Championship where Canada finished second.
“He has an incredible motor. He works tirelessly and has a great scoring ability. He’s fiercely competitive. Above all, I believe, he comprehends motion. Additionally, as you are aware, in order to make the move to motion, you will need players who can move quickly without making mistakes, screen and open people, slip when switching, and play with four other players. These skills can be acquired through experience. It’s clear that he has experience.”
