According to Calciomercato.com, the focus of blame for AC Milan’s current league position and injury situation seems to be directed primarily towards head coach Stefano Pioli.

While Milan’s chances in the Scudetto race have diminished, they remain contenders in the Europa League and must secure qualification for the Champions League. However, Pioli’s position seems precarious given the importance of securing a top-four spot for the club’s economic and sporting strategies, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s influence potentially playing a significant role.

Raheem Sterling will not retire from England despite Gareth Southgate snub

Pioli’s tenure has come under scrutiny, particularly with Milan’s Champions League group stage exit, their considerable gap behind Inter in Serie A, and their Coppa Italia elimination. Additionally, missing out on the 2025 Club World Cup has heightened concerns.

Although Pioli is contracted for another year and earns €4m net per season, the likelihood of a separation at the end of the season appears high. The desired replacement, particularly among fans, is Antonio Conte, known for his ambition and winning mentality, and seen as someone who could embody Milan’s obsession with victory.

However, direct contacts between Milan and Conte have yet to materialize, possibly due to his salary demands and financial requirements. Alternative options like Julen Lopetegui have been considered for their ability to develop young players, but Thiago Motta of Bologna seems to align best with Milan’s vision of gradual growth and sustainability.

Motta’s success at Bologna, where they challenge for a Champions League spot, has drawn Milan’s interest, along with inquiries about players like Riccardo Calafiori, Lewis Ferguson, and Joshua Zirkzee. Both Cardinale and Ibrahimovic see Motta as a coach ready for the challenge of a bigger club and a more competitive environment, emphasizing the shared vision of evolution within the team.
