Birmingham City
Birmingham City’s transfer strategy for Leeds United player is “already set out.”
Birmingham City will have the chance to acquire Cody Drameh on a permanent basis from Leeds United since Elland Road will not be extending an offer to the adaptable defender.
Just one month after his Birmingham loan ends, Drameh’s Leeds contract expires on June 30. The decision not to renew has already been made. He’s under 23, so although many would presume he’d be a free agent, he needs to be paid. The amount that Blues would be required to pay the Lilywhites is unclear, but payment is required.
In all competitions, the 22-year-old has made 28 appearances for Birmingham after playing in two matches against Leeds earlier in the year. Prior to that, Drameh enjoyed a fruitful six-month loan with Luton Town, where he assisted the Hatters in winning the Sky Bet Championship play-offs and advancing to the Premier League.
Drameh, a right-back by trade but can also play center or left, might be a valuable long-term addition for the Blues. While he hasn’t precisely made an impact, he has been a consistent starter and helpful in the event of injuries and suspensions.
There have been sporadic inconsistencies, but that’s to be expected when working under four different management. Like the rest of the team, Drameh has demonstrated that he finds it difficult to adjust to the disparate ideologies of Mark Venus, Wayne Rooney, Tony Mowbray, and John Eustace in such a short amount of time.
Next campaign continuity might support Drameh’s argument. The key is to persuade the player that St Andrew’s at Knighthead Park is the best place for him to obtain that, instead of looking elsewhere. Naturally, remaining in the Championship is also non-negotiable.
