In a standout performance, CJ McCollum scored 33 points, matching his season high, while making 9 of 13 shots from beyond the arc. Zion Williamson contributed significantly with 17 points and a career-best 11 assists, helping the New Orleans Pelicans secure a historic 153-124 victory over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.

The Pelicans set a franchise record for total points in a game, surpassing their previous mark of 149 set in October 2018 against the Sacramento Kings. Additionally, they established another franchise record with 41 assists on 60 made field goals.

Pelicans coach Willie Green praised the team’s collective effort, emphasizing CJ McCollum’s early spark and the overall commitment to the game plan. Williamson, usually a forward, took on a point-forward role from the beginning, distributing the ball effectively. Herb Jones contributed 22 points, Brandon Ingram added 18, and Jonas Valanciunas scored 17.

McCollum, fueled by three days of rest, practice, and film study, expressed his enthusiasm, jokingly suggesting the NBA should schedule more extended breaks between games.

Despite Utah’s Collin Sexton scoring 22 points and Simone Fontecchio adding 18, the Jazz suffered their third consecutive loss. Coach Will Hardy acknowledged a lack of effort from his team, particularly in transition and second-chance opportunities. Herb Jones’ crucial plays, including a block on John Collins and consecutive steals, shifted the momentum in favor of the Pelicans.

The Pelicans dominated the second quarter with a 43-29 performance, leading to a 77-59 halftime advantage—their highest-scoring first half of the season. With 19 assists in the first half, including eight from Williamson, they showcased an efficient and fast-paced offense. CJ McCollum and Herb Jones were sharp from long range, and the Pelicans shot 57.1% from the field.

Looking ahead, the Jazz will continue their road trip with a game against the Washington Wizards on Thursday.
