WMC – Memphis, Tennessee Following a brawl at a Ridgeway High School basketball game, two ladies were taken into custody last night, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

As a result, Ridgeway High and Bolivar Central High School’s competition was canceled. Whichever team won would move on to the Tennessee State Tournament.

According to the authorities, a brawl broke out between a male and two women, both eighteen. The man engaged in the fight fled the scene as police tried to break it up.

When verbal demands failed to stop the two ladies from fighting, police said they turned their attention to them and employed pepper spray.

Police reported that both ladies had been arrested and cited for assault.

After Memphis Fire arrived on the scene to tend to the women, the gym was promptly cleared out.

Unfortunately, a fight on the sidelines caused the game to end early. We’re hoping for a rescheduled game to provide our student-athletes the chance they deserve to play on into the postseason. We take this seriously, and in accordance with state and district legislation, there will be fines and penalties. Let’s keep the action on the floor and away from the sidelines for the benefit of our committed student-athletes.

Regarding the incident, a comment from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association is still pending.
