Team updates as Sunderland’s U-21 team prepares to play Huddersfield in the Central League.

Aji Alese is one of several first-team players who will play for Sunderland’s under-21 team in their Central League matchup with Huddersfield.

In addition to Premier League 2 and the Premier League Cup, the Central League gives development teams the chance to play more games. The game against Huddersfield is scheduled to begin at 1pm, and Sunderland’s starting lineup will also include Timothee Pembele, Mason Burstow, and Hemir in addition to a trialist goalkeeper.

Alese returned to the bench for Sunderland’s play against Cardiff last Friday, but he was not included in the senior squad for Monday’s match against Blackburn. Due to an injury, the 23-year-old hasn’t appeared for the Black Cats’ first squad since January. He is currently receiving cautious management.

“I had an excellent discussion with Aji regarding his current situation,” stated Sunderland’s acting head coach Dodds following the Blackburn match. “He’s training and fitness are both OK because he’s playing for the under-21s on Wednesday. We simply believed that he would benefit greatly from ninety minutes on Wednesday, after which he would be ready for Saturday.”

Trialist, Pembele, Fieldson, Bainbridge, Alese, Middlemas, Jones, Spellman, Watson, Hemir, Burstow will be the Sunderland starting lineup against Huddersfield.

Subs: Tutierov, Bell, Lavery, Ogunsuyi, Metcalf, Lavery
