The Commanders are in dire need of a quarterback, and Mel Kiper Jr. believes the ideal candidate will be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

It’s no secret that the Washington Commanders, who own the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, are aiming for their quarterback of the future. However, Mel Kiper Jr. suggests that the quarterback the Commanders ultimately choose may not be the one who the fans had anticipated.

ESPN said that Kiper’s most recent mock draft placed LSU prodigy Jayden Daniels at No. 2 overall, to Washington. He cited Daniels’ ascent to prominence and general progress as justifications for the Commanders to go after him.

“Despite facing a challenging SEC schedule, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner showed remarkable growth in 2023,” Kiper said. “Drake Maye and Daniels are closely ranked on my board, but Daniels would be a fantastic fit for a Washington team that features some young offensive playmakers.”

Without a doubt, Caleb Williams is the 2024 class’s top quarterback. For the second position, there has been competition, nevertheless. Many commentators think Maye is seated behind Williams. However, Kiper feels that Daniels’ ascent was more impressive than Maye’s at the end of the season, and the LSU standout would be a better match in Washington.

Daniels passed for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and four interceptions his route to winning the Heisman Trophy. On the ground, he gained an additional 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns. In addition to winning the Heisman, Daniels received other honours, including First-Team All-SEC and Consensus All-American.

Daniels’ historic last season at LSU cemented him firmly in the first round picture. The Commanders have a glaring need at quarterback and are in a great position to select a quarterback. Daniels has tempted NFL scouts, despite the fact that he wasn’t expected to be selected in the top five before the season.

Mel Kiper would have Jayden Daniels settle in Washington for his NFL career.
