Juan Soto has added his voice to the growing chorus of advocates for the New York Yankees to take one big step.

Pitcher Blake Snell might be pursued, and Soto was excited about starting him in the beginning of the team’s rotation with Gerrit Cole. Soto was all for the proposal, even though he had no inside knowledge that Snell might join.

“Having two Cy Young winners go back-to-back would be incredible. It would be fantastic,” Soto said to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman. He’s a terrific player and a terrific man. I would appreciate any assistance we might obtain.

“I am confident that he will greatly benefit the team if he decides to visit. Excellent talent on the squad is always a plus. Never once would I say no. Thus, I believe it’s a perfect fit for him.

From the Yankees’ point of view, Snell is a money problem. The current NL Cy Young winner has been requesting a large salary during the winter, but the Yankees are unwilling to give it because they already have to pay the luxury tax. They haven’t officially said no to it, but rumors have it that they wouldn’t be able to devote that much money unless anything changed.
In San Diego, Snell and Soto lived together for a season and a half. Snell had his best season in 2023, with a league-best 2.25 ERA.
