Tim Hyers Joins Atlanta Braves as Hitting Coach

Tim Hyers, who served as the hitting coach for the Texas Rangers for the last three seasons, is returning to Atlanta to take on the same role with the Atlanta Braves.

The Texas Rangers are now on the lookout for a new hitting coach following Hyers’ departure.

Hyers, who celebrated his 53rd birthday on October 3, has deep roots in Atlanta and is eager to be closer to his family. The Rangers expressed their understanding of his decision, acknowledging his significant contributions over the past three years, particularly his role in helping the team secure the 2023 World Series championship.

Hyers was brought on by the Rangers in November 2021 after spending four seasons as the hitting coach for the Boston Red Sox. Prior to that, he was an assistant hitting coach with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2016 to 2017. During his time with the Dodgers, he reached the World Series in 2017 and then won it with the Red Sox in 2018. He also led the Red Sox to the American League Championship Series in 2021 before opting not to extend his contract.

Under Hyers’ guidance, the Red Sox had a standout offensive performance in 2018, leading Major League Baseball in several key categories, including batting average, doubles, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and total bases. The team consistently ranked among the top five in most offensive metrics throughout his tenure.

When Hyers joined the Rangers, he helped improve the team’s batting average from .232 in 2021, which ranked as the second-lowest in MLB, to .239 in 2022, along with a rise in runs scored from 625 (third-fewest in MLB) to 707. In 2023, the Rangers excelled, leading the American League with 881 runs and achieving a .263 batting average, ranking second in MLB. However, the team’s offensive performance took a downturn in 2024, with a batting average of .238 and 683 runs scored.
