KCBD, Memphis, Tennessee Texas Tech lost to Arkansas 39-26 in the 66th Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl, missing out on its first nine-win season since 2009.
The Razorbacks (7-6, 3-5 SEC) surged out to a 21-3 lead after one quarter, while the Red Raiders (8-5, 6-3 Big 12) fell behind early in the first.
The score was 24-19 at the half, but Texas Tech turned it around in the second quarter after a safety that resulted in a 16-3 run for the Red Raiders. But after that, everything was Arkansas.
After the Razorbacks outscored them 15–7 in the second half, the Red Raiders scored a late touchdown to get on the board in the fourth quarter.
Despite the absence of running back Tahj Brooks, Texas Tech’s rushing numbers remained strong. J’Koby Williams led the way with 123 rushing yards as Texas Tech finished with 217.
After the regular season, Behren Morton had surgery on his shoulder, therefore Will Hammond was filling in.
In his first career start, Hammond passed for 280 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Texas Tech’s top receiver, Caleb Douglas, had five receptions and 115 yards. With more than 500 total yards, Arkansas’ attack was blazing. With no interceptions, Taylen Green passed for 341 yards and two touchdowns.
