BREAKING: Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff in the upcoming summer transfer window.

One of the favorites to win the Premier League by default this year is Leeds United, and it appears the Whites are making plans for the upcoming summer.

The Whites have won 12 of their last 13 games—the other being a draw—and appear to be unbeatable in 2024. If they defeat Millwall at Elland Road on Sunday, they might pass Ipswich Town and tie Leicester City for the same point.

Daniel Farke will need to add more elite players to the squad if Leeds wins promotion. He needs players with more Premier League experience above all else, which is presumably why he is already considering seasoned midfielders who can bolster the team.

If Leeds go to the Premier League next summer, they may try to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to a story from the Sunday Mirror (17 March, page 66).

In an attempt to expand his options in the midfield come summertime, Farke has the 26-year-old midfielder squarely in his sights.

For Leeds United, Sean Longstaff would be a fantastic addition.
At the end of the season, Longstaff will begin the last 12 months of his contract. He is an important member of the Magpies team, and first discussions on a new contract have already taken place.

Leeds, however, hopes to sign him for about £15 million because of his contract predicament. This season, the defensive midfielder for the Magpies has made 20 starts in the Premier League and has four goals and two assists to his name.

With the exception of loan stints, Longstaff has only ever played for Newcastle and has participated in over 135 Premier League games. Longstaff has reportedly been playing through a pain barrier for a while, according to Eddie Howe, but he can’t be dropped because of his restricted options.

To comply with the FFP regulations, Newcastle would have to sell a few of their star players in the summer, but it’s unclear if they would be willing to let go of Longstaff.

Although he would be a fantastic addition to the Whites, any transfer is only feasible if Leeds are promoted to the Premier League.
