BREAKING NEWS: A Tennessee police officer has been injured in a shooting during a traffic stop, according to an official statement.
According to a spokesperson from the Memphis Police Department, the driver involved in the incident fled the scene and remains unidentified.
An official reported that a police officer was shot and injured during a traffic stop in Memphis early Friday.
The incident occurred as officers conducted a traffic stop on southbound Interstate 240 around 4:20 a.m. near South Parkway, according to Officer Theresa Carlson, a spokesperson for the Memphis Police Department. During the stop, an officer informed dispatch that he had been shot, Carlson stated in an email.
Initially, Carlson stated that the officer had been transported to a hospital in critical condition. However, later updates from Carlson clarified that the officer’s condition was not critical.
