According to people with knowledge of the matter, Williams is wrapping up a three-year contract to join the Rams, where he spent four seasons and won a Super Bowl. This information was reported on Tuesday by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Williams played for the Jacksonville Jaguars for the previous two seasons. With a career-high four interceptions, 19 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and 53 tackles, the 30-year-old had a strong 2023 season. Williams was one of seven players in 2023 to record at least two forced fumbles and four interceptions.

In an attempt to save money, the Jaguars cut Williams this offseason even though he was their best corner. Although the 5-foot-9 defensive back excels in zone coverage, his strategy doesn’t mesh as well with Ryan Nielsen’s new coordinatorship.

With Chris Shula taking Raheem Morris’ spot as the Rams DC, Williams ought likely return to a starting position in Los Angeles. Williams has given up the second-best passer rating in the NFL (minimum 200 targets) since 2020 with a 78.4 rating in primary coverage, according to PFF.

Williams joined with Baltimore in 2018 as an undrafted free agent, however he only appeared in three games before the Ravens dismissed him. He was signed by L.A., and he played for the Rams for the following three seasons. In the 2020 playoffs, Williams made a standout interception against Seattle, and the next season, he assisted Los Angeles in winning a Lombardi Trophy.

Jacksonville paid Williams in free agency in 2022. He’s back in La La Land now.
